Morgan Evans is speaking out about ex Kelsea Ballerini.
The country singer appeared to address Kelsea's newest six-track EP, Rolling Up The Welcome Mat, which seemingly detailed more about their divorce.
"It's really sad for me to see this person, who I spent so much of my life with, and loved with all my heart, saying things that aren't reality and that leave out what really happened," Morgan, who married Kelsea in 2017, wrote on Instagram Feb. 21. "She knows I'm not the type of guy to speak on those things publicly."
After adding that "if this is what she needs to heal, I hope it helps," Morgan concluded his statement with a message to fans.
"All I ask is that if you're on my pages, please don't be mean," he urged. "Don't be mean to Kelsea, don't be mean to each other. Life's too short."
His message also came hours before Kelsea's Call Her Daddy podcast episode dropped, in which she discussed their divorce and couples therapy experience.
Kelsea released Rolling Up The Welcome Mat on Feb. 14, about five months after she and Morgan confirmed they were separating after almost five years of marriage. In the project, Kelsea used emotionally raw songs to refer to the painful end of a relationship, including in first track "Mountain With A View" which contains lyrics about marriage.
"I'm wearing the ring still / But I think I'm lying / Sometimes you forget yours / I think we're done trying," Kelsea sings. "I realize you loved me much more at 23 / I think that this is when it's over for me."
The EP also includes singles "Just Married," "Penthouse," "Interlude," "Blindsided" and "Leave Me Again."
Upon dropping her latest work, Kelsea—who recently sparked romance rumors with actor Chase Stokes—elaborated in a statement that she "wasn't worried about anything other than presenting the songs as honestly as possible," especially following her breakup from Morgan.
"Rolling Up The Welcome Mat was how I processed everything," she explained. "It's the way I got my feelings out of my body and heart and put them to music, which is the purest way I could've handled it."
Updated on Feb. 21, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. PT after Kelsea's Call Her Daddy podcast episode was released.
